Welcome
Letter of Intent

The purpose of this virtual portofolio is to share with you the knowledge I have gained over the years of my academic involvement in high school, community and college. I am expressing my interest for your company and as you view my profile, you will eventually learn that I am a qualified candiate. In the spring of 2008 I was given the opportunity to visit Morocco, Africa. This experience has drastically impacted my personal life, especially my character. This visit has been my main motivation in pursuing a dual-degree in psychology and criminal justice in order to establish a non-profit organization. The situation I observed in Morocco, Africa was definitely a “reality check” that has fostered my ambition to provide individuals with resources such as scholarships, psychological advice, and financial assistance. Although I have encountered many situations throughout my life, I believe this exposure has been one of the most effective. I always knew that America had immigrants, but after physically watching cops attack females and younger kids, I knew that I had to make a difference in the future. Since visiting Morocco I appreciate life with honor and gratefully accept every opportunity that is presented to me, such as attending college. I view every individual with more respect and honor because of the struggle he or she may have encountered during their life. Experiencing emigration can definitely cause anyone to become gloomy, and I will carry this emotion with me throughout my life no matter what decisions I make, and no matter where I travel I hope to apply an altruistic nature in my future endeavors.
Biography
Academic Work
As a freshmen I have written many essays as requirements for each of my college courses. Academically, I feel as though I can undertake any challenge because I like the feeling of accomplishment. My hard work towards academics has been proven through my scholarhip awards. I was a recipent of three scholarships, THE HOPE CHEST, INC., THE MAMAS, INC. and THE LEADERSHIP AWARD granted by Rider University. Below are two examples of my work
First Amendment, Federal Communications Commission and Mark Lloyd in America
Volunteer Experiences

During my high school years, I was part of the Teen Center (T.C). The T.C trained
teenagers to become Peer Educators. When I was part of the T.C, adolescents from different schools from Northern New Jersey came to share their experiences, life styles and respect for each other. I was also part of the sexual health training program known as Teen Prevention Education Program which covered the different health issues that our society encounters today. I accepted the responsibility to conduct outreach workshops and contributed at least two days of the week to enhance my community knowledge on the different types of health problems. It was through this program which allowed me to travel to distinctive places like Washington, D.C for the A.C.L.U national conference, Baltimore, Maryland, college tours such as Temple University, Montclair State University and because of this program I was also able to see Barack Obama several times. Recently, I have volunteered in a panel called "First Generation Panel for College Studens", I was also elected as the only representative of the Deputy Mayor of the City of Newark, New Jersey from the Youth Council. Within this program, I took on the responsibility of conducting Monthly Youth Ward meetings that have allowed the voices of our youth to be heard.

About Me
My name is Juan Lorenzo and I am currently a student at Rider University. I am a psychology mayor with a minor in criminal justice. After I graduate from college, I want to utilize my degree by working for the FBI and later starting a non-profit organization for displaced individuals. I have many long and short term goals but with my hard work ethic I can accomplish each one. I like to undertake challenges because it proves and perpetuates my character, creative, observant and my good intrapersonal skills. I belong to the class of 2013 in the Leadership Development Program here at Rider University in which a certain amount of students were accepted. On my spare time, I enjoy reading, networking and discovering the different aspects of many cultures, painting, drawing and exploring the various music genres. In the future, I want to continue traveling to distinctive countries which includes my visitation to South America in hopes to improve their environment.
